Accounting & Finance LMIA Guide

Accounting and finance professionals follow a different LMIA path than IT workers — fewer GTS approvals, more reliance on standard High Wage LMIA, and a stronger credential requirement. Key NOC codes: 11100 (Financial auditors/accountants), 12200 (Accounting technicians).

Accounting LMIA landscape

Unlike IT, most accounting LMIAs go through the standard High Wage stream. Big 4 firms (Deloitte, PwC, KPMG, EY) are the most consistent sponsors, but mid-tier firms also appear regularly.

Big 4 vs mid-tier firms

Big 4 firms are the most reliable sponsors due to consistent international hiring programs. Mid-tier firms (BDO, Grant Thornton, MNP) also sponsor but less frequently.

CPA credential path for foreign accountants

Foreign-trained accountants typically need to go through CPA Canada's assessment process. If your home country has a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) with CPA Canada — e.g., ICAEW (UK), ICAI (India), ICAS (Scotland), CPA Australia — the path is shorter. Without MRA, expect 1–2 years of additional requirements.

Realistic timeline

Accounting LMIA takes longer than IT due to standard processing times.
